yeah.JPG Finally the motor was bolted on! This is basically a couple of bits of aluminium angle cut down and drilled to make corner brackets for the motor. To date this is the only bit of proper engineering done on this loco! P1300003.JPG This shows the motor after it had its useless gearbox removed. Why was it fitted with one anyway? It does virtually nothing to reduce the drive ratios and merely taxes the motor! The motor is an ex Sinclair C5. I have two, originally it was going to have two motors fitted, but I found from others experiance that one was enough, so I have a spare should I need it! 158-5862_IMG.jpg Seen in the carpark of the Great Cockcrow Railway (its home) you can see the rest of the locos chassis. The body is based on "Toby the tram" and will cover everything. 158-5864_IMG.jpg A view looking down. Please ignore the wonkyness of the whole thing! 158-5863_IMG.jpg another view in the car park. The white motor mounts have since been cut down and they don't stick out anymore. DSCF0755.JPG umm yes this could beinteresting....this is the chassis for livvies tender, ignore the engine its being sold DSCF0996.JPG and here is the tender! It still needs corner braces and paint, but you can ride on it. It does vibrate a lot though! DSCF0999.JPG And here is the tender all painted and ready to go into service. I decided to put a fixed seat in it seeing as it will always be towed in the same direction. I would like to put the initials "GCR" on it, for "Great Cockcrow Railway", hopefully the loco will be allowed to stay there. All it needs now is a loco to pull it! Quite a change from its former life as a petrol powered locomotive! DSCF1004.JPG after todays working session I thought it was about time I coupled the engine and tender together to admire! Wow, its going to be great! DSCF1005.JPG In this pic the main things I have done today are apparent. I have put a bit of angle behind the rear coupling so that the rear buffer beam doesn't break under load. I have also fixed the layshaft bearing mounts to the chassis. These are just lengths of aluminium angle I found under the lathe. I have also painted the buffer beams properly. DSCF1006.JPG Here you can see the new bearing mounts fitted. While I was working on this area I also took the time to properly attach the motor and pack the spindle end up with...cereal packet card! Well if it works... DSCF1007.JPG once again here is the tender, I love it, although I am considering replacing the cushion! DSCF1303.JPG No more C5 motor! The new motor is an original motor out of the tube train, which the C5s needlessly replaced. It came complete with reduction gears and everything! A little bit of work on me and Stephen's part and it was bolted in. Please ignore the dodgy packing, it will be trimmed and painted eventually! DSCF1304.JPG Here you can see the reduction gearing. DSCF1305.JPG Mind the gap, this has a chain which is too long but once connected thats it! DSCF1306.JPG the man who said my engineering sucked! DSCF1307.JPG the next two pics are of the motor after a little bit of alignment work was done (hit it with a hammer, no really!). The motor was so solid I did away with the awful packing. DSCF1308.JPG here we go. The sprockets are perfectly aligned. I took it to the GCR and coupled up the sprockets and as expected everything turned over beautifully! Unfortunately the chain is too long at the moment and kept jumping off, so I need to do something about that. DSCF1335.JPG.jpg The body after I had painted in the doors and windows. You can also see the decorative framing for the body. DSCF1493.JPG the formers for the roof planks. DSCF1496.JPG The body after I had stained and varnished all the appropriate bits. DSCF1499.JPG Shows the side after the varnish was put on. DSCF1501.JPG The side skirts are now painted black, the paintwork and decoration is practically finished, just need to do the roof! DSCF1491.JPG.jpg The basic bodyshell when I got it home, I made it in school. DSCF1336.JPG Again, the basic bodyshell DSCF1340.JPG The inside, you can see the newly finished transmission and the battery bay. P1010034.JPG WOW it works!! Stephen, future key holder (even though he maintains the loco is a big box, which it is! Here he is heading down the bank out of Hardwick. P1010039.JPG Here is Steve driving back up the bank into Hardwick. P1010042.JPG The owner gets a go, the tender now has pedals so your knees are no longer in your face. P1010043.JPG the owner looking happy! P1010047.JPG Scott gets a go.
