Seen in the carpark of the Great Cockcrow Railway (its home) you can see the rest of the locos chassis. The body is based on "Toby the tram" and will cover everything. 1024x768 158-5862_IMG.jpg 2005-08-28 18:06:38 |
another view in the car park. The white motor mounts have since been cut down and they don't stick out anymore. 1024x768 158-5863_IMG.jpg 2005-08-28 18:06:45 |
A view looking down. Please ignore the wonkyness of the whole thing! 1024x768 158-5864_IMG.jpg 2005-08-28 18:06:51 |
This shows the motor after it had its useless gearbox removed. Why was it fitted with one anyway? It does virtually nothing to reduce the drive ratios and merely taxes the motor! The motor is an ex Sinclair C5. I have two, originally it was going to have two motors fitted, but I found from others experiance that one was enough, so I have a spare should I need it! 1280x960 P1300003.JPG 2005-01-30 18:45:37 |
Finally the motor was bolted on! This is basically a couple of bits of aluminium angle cut down and drilled to make corner brackets for the motor. To date this is the only bit of proper engineering done on this loco! 2592x1944 yeah.JPG 2006-01-15 08:06:20 |
umm yes this could beinteresting....this is the chassis for livvies tender, ignore the engine its being sold 2592x1944 DSCF0755.JPG 2006-05-12 07:57:32 |
and here is the tender! It still needs corner braces and paint, but you can ride on it. It does vibrate a lot though! 2592x1944 DSCF0996.JPG 2006-08-04 00:33:47 |
And here is the tender all painted and ready to go into service. I decided to put a fixed seat in it seeing as it will always be towed in the same direction. I would like to put the initials "GCR" on it, for "Great Cockcrow Railway", hopefully the loco will be allowed to stay there. All it needs now is a loco to pull it! Quite a change from its former life as a petrol powered locomotive! 2592x1944 DSCF0999.JPG 2006-08-05 02:24:34 |
after todays working session I thought it was about time I coupled the engine and tender together to admire! Wow, its going to be great! 2592x1944 DSCF1004.JPG 2006-08-09 09:12:10 |
In this pic the main things I have done today are apparent. I have put a bit of angle behind the rear coupling so that the rear buffer beam doesn't break under load. I have also fixed the layshaft bearing mounts to the chassis. These are just lengths of aluminium angle I found under the lathe. I have also painted the buffer beams properly. 2592x1944 DSCF1005.JPG 2006-08-09 09:12:39 |
Here you can see the new bearing mounts fitted. While I was working on this area I also took the time to properly attach the motor and pack the spindle end up with...cereal packet card! Well if it works... 2592x1944 DSCF1006.JPG 2006-08-09 09:12:49 |
once again here is the tender, I love it, although I am considering replacing the cushion! 2592x1944 DSCF1007.JPG 2006-08-09 09:12:56 |
No more C5 motor! The new motor is an original motor out of the tube train, which the C5s needlessly replaced. It came complete with reduction gears and everything! A little bit of work on me and Stephen's part and it was bolted in. Please ignore the dodgy packing, it will be trimmed and painted eventually! 2592x1944 DSCF1303.JPG 2006-10-15 08:35:24 |
Here you can see the reduction gearing. 2592x1944 DSCF1304.JPG 2006-10-15 08:35:32 |
Mind the gap, this has a chain which is too long but once connected thats it! 2592x1944 DSCF1305.JPG 2006-10-15 08:35:39 |
the man who said my engineering sucked! 2592x1944 DSCF1306.JPG 2006-10-15 08:44:08 |
the next two pics are of the motor after a little bit of alignment work was done (hit it with a hammer, no really!). The motor was so solid I did away with the awful packing. 2592x1944 DSCF1307.JPG 2006-10-15 22:27:59 |
here we go. The sprockets are perfectly aligned. I took it to the GCR and coupled up the sprockets and as expected everything turned over beautifully! Unfortunately the chain is too long at the moment and kept jumping off, so I need to do something about that. 2592x1944 DSCF1308.JPG 2006-10-15 22:28:07 |
The body after I had painted in the doors and windows. You can also see the decorative framing for the body. 2592x1944 DSCF1335.JPG.jpg 2006-11-04 04:48:19 |
Again, the basic bodyshell 2592x1944 DSCF1336.JPG 2006-10-19 04:19:14 |
The inside, you can see the newly finished transmission and the battery bay. 2592x1944 DSCF1340.JPG 2006-10-19 04:21:49 |
The basic bodyshell when I got it home, I made it in school. 2592x1944 DSCF1491.JPG.jpg 2006-10-19 04:19:07 |
the formers for the roof planks. 2592x1944 DSCF1493.JPG 2006-11-04 04:48:50 |
The body after I had stained and varnished all the appropriate bits. 2592x1944 DSCF1496.JPG 2006-11-05 02:48:50 |
